Taking the FX Maverick Air Rifle on a Micro-hog hunt!
I head down to Texas to hunt and started off using my FX Maverick Air Rifle on a micro-hog hunt! A lot of hunters pass through this property and shoot a lot of hogs, leaving a disproportionate number of bbq sized porkers scurrying around. I had the opportunity to spend a couple days culling these little pests before looking for a big tusker, and I could use the time to scout about a bit.
I reckoned that these hogs didn’t require the power of a big bore airgun but needed a combination of enough power and pinpoint accuracy. The gun I choose on the first day out was the FX Maverick compact model, with a .30 caliber barrel. Though I have mostly shot JSB Pellets in this gun, I decided to switch over to the FX Hybrid Slugs for this application, and spoiler alert, they did a great job. The scope used was the Element Helix 6-24x50 FFP, great glass and it functioned brilliantly in the low light of early morning and late afternoon.
